Making my Supermoto Racing Debut – Sept. 15 – 17, 2012

This coming weekend (Sept 15-17, 2012), I will be entering my first SUPERMOTO race. I am registered to race in the Beginner, Novice, and Vet 30 classes this weekend at the Orange County Fairgrounds. The track is located in Costa Mesa, California and the event is hosted by RACESMX.com .

For those of you that are unfamiliar with supermoto, it is a combination of motocross and street racing that takes place on small kart style tracks.  Dirt bikes are outfitted with street racing tires and we race around on pavement with a mix of jumps, dirt, and varied turns thrown into the mix to keep things plenty interesting!

I had my first  introduction to supermoto back in May of this year with SoCalSupermoto.com  at the Adam’s Kart Track in Riverside, CA.  I took Brian’s supermoto class and fell in love with the sport.  For $199 he provided a great rental bike that was prepped for the race track, gave me lessons, took pictures throughout the day, and gave me everything necessary to have one of the most kick ass days on a motorcycle that I have had in years. I liked that first day of supermoto so much that I made arrangements to do it again 3 more times over this past summer at other SoCalSupermoto schools.

I genuinely do not know if I can think of a better way to spend $199 and get more fun out of it.  If you know how to ride a motorcycle (street or dirt) and have not been to supermoto,  go to the SoCalSupermoto website and book a  date with Brian.  You will thank me for the recommendation, I promise.

So, I have a total of  4 days riding / practicing supermoto to date.  Sure my supermoto experience thus far is very limited, but I am pretty sure that I will do well in my first races this weekend because I have had some great  lessons from Brian Murray at his schools, my bike is rippin, I feel good on the bike,  and I have plenty of other previous bike racing experience. I will be racing on my freshly converted  2006 YZ450F supermoto beast of a machine and hope to at least get on the podium in my races. I am also going to be trying out my brand new custom Hazardous Racing  suit, so it would be great to capture a few podium spots right out of the gate with it.  ;)   WIsh me luck!

If you are in the area please stop by and cheer for me !

Have a great day,
-Tim
